Miressi and Viberti on top in Bolzano - Polieri takes the poker - Stefanì scores a hat
trick
Alessandro Miressi did not disappoint expectations at the 28th edition of the Swimmeeting South Tyrol that initiates the new season in South Tyrol and once again brought many important names to Bolzano. After the 100 freestyle on Saturday afternoon, the 26-year-old from Turin also triumphed in the 50 freestyle, but he leaves the South Tyrolean capital without any event record. For the first time in the history of the event born in 1997, there were no meeting records. Miressi's palmares is remarkable, including three Olympic medals, 16 at the World Championships and 20 at the European Championships, and he holds the Italian records over 100 freestyle on long (47.45) and short (45.51) course. He has been the favourite of the Bolzano public and stopped this afternoon the clock in the 50 freestyle at 22.18, beating Gabriele Brambillaschi by four hundredths. ‘I wasn't looking for times here, in a fortnight at the Italian Open I have to be ready,’ Miressi said at the poolside after his season debut three months after the Paris Games. Double victory also for Ludovico Blu Art Viberti in the breaststroke events. After his victory in the 50 breaststroke on Saturday, today he was unrivalled over the 100 breaststroke and touched first in 58.37 just four tenths of a second behind Nicolò Martinenghi's Bolzano record (57.98). Viberti: ‘I made a few mistakes today too, all in all I am happy because these were the first races of the new season.’ Simone Stefanì, who had won the 100 backstroke on Saturday, won two thrilling races today. In the 100 dolphin he prevailed in 51.85 by a hundredth over the American Zach Harting (51.86) and a few minutes later he made the hat-trick by also winning the 50 backstroke in 24.71 ahead of Tommaso Coccato (24.73) and again Harting (24.81). ‘I was lucky in the end, but honestly with the times not much. Now I have to prepare for the open in two weeks,’ Stefanì commented. Alessia Polieri played a major role in the women's field with four victories at the Bolzano weekend. She did a double over the 50 and 100 in backstroke and as well in butterfly. The 100 butterfly were triumphed by the the 30-year-old from Imola in 1.01.73, the 50 backstroke in 28.41. ‘It's good as it is, the times are not optimal because we started this season a bit calmly. The Bolzano meeting is very nice, because it only has fast races on the programme, and it’s fun like on a playground,’ said Polieri after the Tour de Force with seven races in two days. The 50 freestyle Madison Kennedy redemption race. The 36-year-old American is still having fun, and after Saturday's disappointment in the 100 freestyle, she did win the sprint in 25.55 ahead of an excellent Veronica Quaggio (25.60), with Bolzano's Sabrina Weger (26.01) third. Third place with personal best in 1.08.88 also for Viviane Graif of Sportclub Merano in the 100 breaststroke. Victory went to Switzerland's Havana Cueto Cabrera who in 1.07.73 took revenge on Nika Godun, second in 1.08.21 winner of the 50 breaststroke the day before.
